Discover the history of art (and more) and immerse yourself in the secrets of the painting of Romanino and Giovanni Pietro Da Cemmo in a journey between Pisogne and Esine!
The starting point for this guided tour is the church of Santa Maria della Neve, built in the late fifteenth century at the junction of two main trade routes: the 'Valleriana' road that led to the Alpine passes and the road that led to the mines and Val Trompia. The place became a lively transit point and the building a very popular Marian shrine. The artistic interest of the church focuses on the cycle of frescoes depicting the Passion of Christ, considered one of the highest points of the pictorial poetics of Romanino. A passion painted "in dialect", through a direct language and dramatically theatrical, representing the figures with a very strong anatomy. The frescoed scenes are presented to the viewer as a complex of imposing theatricality, with the vaults populated by "Michelangelgiolesque" figures of sibyls and prophets to the point that Giovanni Testori baptized evocatively with the name of "Sistine Chapel of the poor" the frescoed church of Pisogne.
The second part of the tour moves to Esine to visit the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and discover the art of Giovanni Pietro da Cemmo, a painter of Camonica origin who is in Esine in the late '400 (1491/92/93) and who expressed in Santa Maria Assunta all his artistic wisdom. Through refined brushstrokes, he performs a splendid masterpiece of late Gothic with a pictorial cycle that covers all the walls of the church and develops two themes: the history of salvation and that of popular devotion.
This experience is completed by the artist Maria Luisa Gandini, master in the engraving of precious stones, such as lapis, sodalite and simple pebble.
